Michael Jay Kussner, born on April 27, 1994, in Miami, Florida, passed away on August 16, 2024, in his hometown. A loving son to Amy and David and a devoted brother to Timothy, Michael was known for his quirky personality, infectious laughter, passion for life, kind and gentle nature. He was witty and quick with a come-back, leaving big shoes for his cousins to fill. Michael found joy in the simple pleasures of life, he enjoyed cooking/grilling and he was actually good at it, hitting short drives down the fairway while golfing (thanks to Nick for helping him increase his distance-at least a little bit) or spending time on the water, his favorite place to be. He was happy to be out fishing, paddle-boarding or scuba diving and would never say no to an opportunity to do so. He was an avid fan of the Florida State Seminoles and the New England Patriots-with or without Tom Brady, often cheering for his teams while enjoying burgers or brats, nachos, enchiladas or a beautifully grilled steak. He previously attended Jack D Gordon Elementary School and performed in the Superintendent’s Annual Honors Music Festival with his choral group. At Southwood Middle School, in the chorus magnet, they brought laughter to the audience with their hit song the “12 days of the season” which was a parody of the “12 days of Christmas” to include recent hurricanes that had come through the state. For high school, he attended Felix Varela Senior High School and took part in the vet academy, this included showing up to school VERY early to help clean and feed the animals they fostered. He was dedicated and only grumbled a little bit about the early morning hours. There were a few dogs that stole his heart and ended up spending time at the family home. In his professional life, Michael served as an assistant manager in the meat department at Publix, and then at Milam’s where he was well-loved by his colleagues and customers alike. Co-workers were known to comment “Wow Mike, you’re really good with people. I need to learn to be like you.” His commitment to excellence extended beyond work; he earned his Arrow of Light with Pack 850 and he was a proud Eagle Scout from Troop 599. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, sharing his love for the outdoors and community service with younger generations. He enjoyed summer camps in North Carolina and Georgia with rafting trips on the way to camp. His love of scuba diving was founded at the Sea Base High Adventure program in Lower Matecumbe Key, FL. He was also involved with the Order of the Arrow and served as Chapter Chief for the Hnu-Ra-Con chapter and was Lodge Quartermaster. He loved brainstorming activities for Brotherhood Bashes and the Haunted Forest. Michael’s sense of humor was unmatched, frequently sharing “dad jokes” to the groans of those around him. Another sense of amusement was to introduce his brother Timothy as his “little” brother and watch their reactions when they had to look up to Tim. He was also a fan of music, enjoying the sounds of Green Day, Luke Combs and Mitchell Tenpenny and he could often be found binge-watching his favorite TV shows, including “Dexter”, “The Office”, the “Pat MacAfee Show” “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Sports Center”. He was truly a “knower” of random sports information. His impact on the lives of others was profound; he brought joy and peace to everyone he encountered. Michael will be remembered for his loving nature and the happiness he spread. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and his three favorite girls, Tiffany, Bella and Briana, whom he loved.
