Lazaro (Larry) Balseiro, 69, of Miami Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Born on December 17, 1956 in La Habana, Cuba, he is survived by his father, Orlando Balseiro, former wife and mother of his five children, Arvi Balseiro, children, Christopher Balseiro (wife, Krista), Jennifer Yost (husband, Charlie), Christina Balseiro (husband, Mario), Jonathan Balseiro (wife, Desiree) and Leo Balseiro (wife, Natalee) and seven grandchildren: Nina Balseiro, MaryJane Balseiro, Jaxon Yost, Kathlyn Balseiro, Colton Yost, Bennett Balseiro and Niko Balseiro. At the age of four, Larry immigrated to Miami Beach with his parents, Orlando and Elvira Balseiro. He began his education at Fisher-Feinberg Elementary School and later attended Miami Military Academy, where he distinguished himself academically and athletically and earned the prestigious leadership role of Battalion Commander. His high school years were filled with achievements in military training, academics, baseball, and football—early signs of the discipline, leadership, and love of sports that would shape his future and influence his children. Following Miami Military Academy, Larry pursued his college education at the University of Florida where he spent his first two years. Missing his hometown, he transferred to the University of Miami where he earned his Bachelors’ degree in Mathematics. Shortly after graduating, he married, and began working at Apex Maritime, a family business where he spent several years before discovering his true calling in education. In time, combining his passion for mathematics and sports, Larry taught at a few independent schools and, later, The Cushman School, a community he held close to his heart. He served as a middle school mathematics and photography educator and sports coach. Above all else, Larry was a devoted father. He supported his children’s passions wholeheartedly and enjoyed being integral in their lives. His spontaneity, generous spirit and love for adventure were shared with his family and friends and he welcomed people with warmth. Larry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
