In Loving Memory of Dr. Raul Reyes Roque September 29, 1936 – July 31st, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dr. Raul Reyes Roque, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, physician, and passionate lover of the arts, whose compassion, intellect, and warmth touched countless lives. Born on September 29, 1936, in Güines, Cuba, to Raul and Maria, Raul’s life was defined by resilience, dedication, and deep cultural pride. Before leaving Cuba, he married the love of his life, Mercedes Giz, and together they embarked on a journey of hope and determination that would shape generations. After earning his medical degree in Cuba, Raul fled the island in 1962 following the Cuban Revolution. He eventually made Miami his permanent home, a city where he would build a legacy both in medicine and the arts. Raul revalidated his psychiatry degree first in Spain and later in the United States, where he cared for thousands of patients over a long and impactful career. He was also a mentor and teacher to countless foreign-trained doctors, helping them navigate the U.S. medical system and achieve their own professional dreams. His dedication to healing was matched only by his generosity in guiding others. Beyond his work in medicine, Raul was deeply involved in the Cuban cultural diaspora, lending his support and talents to theater productions and various artistic initiatives. A true renaissance man, he amassed an extraordinary collection of over 40,000 LP records, proudly sharing his love and deep knowledge of music with all who would listen. His passion even led him to host several number-one radio shows in South Florida, where his voice became a familiar and cherished presence. He was a man of intellect, grace, and wide-ranging interests, who passed on his love for music, culture, and learning to his children and grandchildren. His legacy lives on through them — Gino, Igor, and Ingrid, his beloved children, and his six grandchildren, as well as the many lives he touched as a doctor, teacher, and cultural advocate. Raul is remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the kindness, curiosity, and joy he brought into every room. He was truly one of a kind. A ceremony to honor Dr. Raul Reyes Roque’s life and legacy will be held on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, from 5 to 11 p.m. at Bernardo Garcia Funeral Home, 8215 Bird Rd, Miami, FL 33155. The family welcomes all who wish to pay their respects and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who gave so much to so many.
