Dr. Teatino Ernesto Camacho (Erne to his family and friends), of Cocoa Beach, Florida (previously Miami, Florida), passed away peacefully on Monday February 24, 2025, at his home at the age of 85. He was born to Teatino and Hermina Camacho on November 7, 1939, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. Erne attended Auburn University from 1957 – 1959 where he studied pre-Med, however, due to the Cuban Revolution his studies were temporarily interrupted and in March of 1959 he returned to Cuba. Shortly thereafter, in 1961, he fled Cuba to Miami to start a new life as a political exile. He married the love of his life, Emilia Morales March 31, 1962, and together had three children. In 1974, with Emilita and his three children in tow, he embarked on his lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor enrolling at the Universidad Central Del Este (UCE) in the Dominican Republic. Upon completing his medical degree at UCE, he went on to do his internship at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital where he specialized in Family Medicine. “Doctor Camacho”, as he was affectionately called in Spanish by his patients, had a successful private practice for many years and lived his dream to practice medicine and lovingly help all those he could. In his later years, he also worked with Humana Medical Center and Clinica Peñalver (satellite clinic sponsored by the Univ of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital). He retired and moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 2016 where he continued practicing medicine as a volunteer at a local public health care clinic. He is survived by his daughter Irma De La Camara (husband Francisco), his sons, Ernesto Camacho (wife Mayra) and Jose Camacho (wife Lissette), grandkids, Natalie, Frances, Frankie, Cristina, Amanda, Emily, Jose, and Carolina, great grandsons, Wyatt and Ethan. He is also survived by his sisters, Balbina Diaz and Oliva Santana.
